What Are the Characteristics of a Good Logo?

If you are trying to create a custom logo design for your business, there are some things that you should take into consideration. However, these concepts are difficult to explain, especially in a single article. Hopefully you will indulge a more visceral experience.

I would ask you to close your eyes when you imagine the example that I am about to explain, but you would not be able to read the text. Hopefully you will be able to complete the following exercise with your eyes open.

Bring to mind the top three logos that you can without thinking. What is similar about these logos?

Most likely, these logos are visual in nature rather than textual. The logos are also visually arousing in some way. They most likely remind you of something else, even if you can not put your finger on exactly what that object is. The logos breed familiarity, as if you have seen them before, even the first time you saw them.

Speaking of the first time that you saw them, you may even remember the first time that you saw them. Even if you can not, you definitely remember the brand with which they are associated. You may even be able to hum a theme song or remember a commercial that was especially funny. These custom logo designs that are in your head bring with them a very specific and total experience for your senses.

This is the type of experience that you should bring to your potential customers with your custom logo design.

This may seem like a tall order for a small business without much of an audience to speak of. This is why custom logo design is usually best done with some professional graphic design and brand management help. However, you may not have the budget for all of that. However, you do have the budget to consider the following.

Good logo designs are pregnant with information. They are familiar. They tell everything about your company without having to say it in words.

In order to create the logo that will fulfill this kind of a hole in your marketing campaign, you must first learn your company inside and out.

Focus groups with your current customers are the key to finding out exactly what your company does that no other company in your industry does. This individuality will give you the inspiration to create the logo of your dreams.
